The Stitch - Issue 01

If you've followed Aloka for the past few years, you know that our move into a new studio in Athens, Georgia-- where the workroom and warehouse are under the same roof -- has dramatically lifted our business and charged our creative minds. To study every quilt, to handle the material on the daily, to organize integration of remnants and to allow for ideas to unfold is, in itself, a meditation.
What you see pop into your inbox and populate our marketing efforts is the steady commitment with our team and partners in India to procure and prepare the pieces to ship.

Did you know that we select our quilts, one-at-a-time? Early morning sessions before sunrise here, allow us a way to give new design voice and refresh vintage textiles for today's market. Here in the quiet we assign an over-dye color to each piece before it goes to spot-cleaning and a multi-step wash and softening process. Dry time often includes additional drying in the sun. Then they are set for the trip to Athens!

Customers and collectors often tell us, "Your kantha quilts are just different" and in this and future newsletters we would like to share moments, thoughts, and small revelations from this material journey and sweet and steady approach with you. Thank you for following along and encouraging and if you ever find yourself in Athens, we will fling our doors wide for you!
