About Our Company
We are, at our core, a story about roots. For founder, Monik Ladha, aloka is an embrace of “home” – in many senses of the word: a reconnection to his cultural home of India, and his entry into his family’s former commercial home in the home interiors industry.
Much of our spirit is rooted in the family lessons and “little proverbs” Monik learned as a child; lessons of remaining aware of oneself, respecting others, nature, and our earth, and being, almost neurotically, considerate of one’s waste. It is that frame of mind that guides aloka to seek potential in both existing and new materials, making them with care and consideration for craft and the planet.
Our debut line of quilts and pillows are a celebration of rediscovered beauty and uniqueness. Using repurposed material made of saris (between 60-80 years old), each piece requires patience and an understanding of its capacity to be refreshed into something new again. The result is a distinctive line of products, durable in nature and reinvigorated through over-dyes and prints.
